Frequently Asked Questions

Is Pegasus Equine Training nationally accredited?

Pegasus Equine Training is not itself a Registered Training Organisation. However, Pegasus Equine Training operates under a Partnership with Halo Nation Training Pty Ltd (RTO 32485). This means that Halo Nation Training is the supervising RTO responsible for all qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued through this service. All face-to-face, practical, and online training is carried out by Pegasus Equine Training as a Partner of Halo Nation Training.

Do I need to travel to complete my course?

No. Our mentoring model means you study wherever you are. Theoretical components are delivered online and practical activities are completed in your own environment — at your property, workplace, or another suitable location. You do not need to come to us.

Do I need access to horses?

Yes. For the equine qualifications (ACM20221 and ACM30821) you will need access to appropriate horses to complete the practical logbook activities. You will need access to at least three calm, consistent and obedient horses for a range of practical activities. We work with you to identify suitable arrangements prior to enrolment.

What if I don’t have access to horses?

Contact us and we will discuss your options. The same people you identify as possible mentors or supervisors may have horses you can use, or know of suitable animals. Local pony clubs frequently have access to horses or can point you in the right direction.

What is a mentor and how do I find one?

Your mentor is someone with solid, practical knowledge of horse care who can supervise and sign off your practical logbook activities. Mentors may be riding coaches, other agistees on a property, trainers or instructors at your pony club, or anyone else with the relevant skills. You may have one mentor or several across different activities. Pegasus Equine Training approves all mentors before practical activities commence.

How long does a course take?

Courses are self-paced and there is no set timetable. As a guide, Certificate II in Horse Care typically takes up to 12 months and Certificate III in Horse Care up to 12–18 months. Your pace will depend on the time you can dedicate each week and the availability of animals for practical activities.

Is government funding available?

Government funding is not currently available for these courses through Pegasus Equine Training. All enrolments are fee for service.
